Lionel Messi scored a match-winning goal in Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup opener against Sporting Kansas City. It helped the Herons to secure a 1-0 win on Messi’s coldest game of his career. The temperature reached -17 degrees during the game and the 37-year-old forward was feeling the cold at the beginning.

Lionel Messi has been a regular for Inter Miami in the pre-season games and his club remained unbeaten across five games. Lionel Messi scored a goal in Miami’s first pre-season game against Club America when his teasing celebration against Mexico fans made headlines. The Argentina superstar will now gear up for his next assignment.

Inter Miami will play their season-opener on Saturday, Feb. 22 against New York City FC at Chase Stadium. Javier Mascherano’s side will chase the MLS Cup glory after a heartbreaking exit in the first round of the playoffs against Atlanta United last season.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi helped Miami to finish at the top of the MLS table but failed to win the trophy. The Argentine would aim for the MLS Cup title in his final season with the Herons. As per reports, Messi is planning to leave Inter Miami in the winter of 2026.
