Ferrari brought out the big guns with their first upgrade in Austria. Their floor upgrade was only a small hint of what was about the come in the upcoming weekends. The Maranello outfit have devised a complex plan to take care of the issues prevailing in their car. Ferrari will be bringing their next set of upgrades at Spa Francorchamps for the Belgian Grand Prix, as per the latest reports.

Ferrari was undertaking a filming day at its private test track in Fiorano, Mugello. The show was supposed to a mere media event. Although, some significant design changes were spotted in the SF25. These changes led experts to believe that filming was a cover for Ferrari’s private test for their upgrades. Their star-driver, Lewis Hamilton, has been requesting upgrades with the car for a long time. The team has finally decided to take his pleas seriously and set out on improving their car.

Ferrari Brings a New Suspension Upgrade to 2025 Belgian Grand Prix

Formula 1’s new cars are heavy reliant on ground work aerodynamics. They tend to bottom out and create porpoising which ends up affecting the stability of the car. The suspension of the car is crucial for these cases. The 2022 regulations are heavily dependent on a good suspension setup which keeps up the stability of F1 car.

If we go back to the second race of the season, Ferrari’s ended up with a double DSQ for the first time in their history. They pushed their cars too hard and the plank wear caused them to fail the post-race tests.

This problem has been degrading Ferrari’s performance throughout the 12 races this season. Ferrari SF25 is ridden with stability issues in high speed chases. The drivers are being told to lift and coast (the act of not accelerating during high speed corners to let the car slow down gradually and stop it from bottoming out).

The new suspension upgrade from Ferrari has these key aims for the next race-

reach the optimal ride height to stop the drivers from bottoming out the car at high-speed
create more space around the gearbox for more damper capacity
help drivers adapt to less-extreme setups for overcoming the car (Leclerc has been going for a extremely oversteering car)

What Ferrari Has to Say About Their New Suspension

Ferrari deputy team principal Jerome D’Ambrosio explains the ideology behind Ferrari’s modifications as-

“Without commenting on details of what’s going to come and when it’s going to come, part of what we’re trying to work on is to try to improve the car balance and help the drivers. And there’s performance in that. Sometimes it’s more difficult to predict the amount of performance you bring to the track.”

“On, aero, I wouldn’t say it’s a one-to-one correlation, but often you know how much downforce you’re bringing, how much that correlates into laptime. But there are aspects of car balance and so on, which is also driver preference, driver comfort, and drivers’ driving style. So you are trying to put the car in a better balance and that’s an objective point – where you see when the car is either too nervous or too understeering in general, and that will bring performance to the team and to the car.”

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have clocked in 200 kms during the Mugello testing session. The two drivers should be able to extract better results out of the car now that they have a good setup. Both Hamilton and Leclerc were looking strong during the British Grand Prix weekend.

They could sustain their pace for a longer period of time in Silverstone. Spa Francorchamps is an extremely fast circuit with high-speed corners making it tricky to handle. It’s about time that the Tifosi got a reason to celebrate during a weekend.
