Apart from the Cardinals’ 2021 season, it has been mostly a lull period of football in the Grand Canyon State. Last season, Arizona improved its record by 4 wins over the previous two years. It was a big step in the right direction, but overall, it still feels like there is a lot left to offer.

The Cardinals are decently placed under center with Kyler Murray at the helm. However, injuries and overall lack of offensive strength have limited his success on the field. With the number 4 overall pick in the 2024 draft, the Cardinals selected wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., and his impact on the team was seen immediately as Arizona became deadlier through the air.

In the offseason, the Cardinals have completely revamped their defensive line by bringing in former Eagle Josh Sweat at the edge, and Calais Campbell, as well as Dalvin Tomlinson at the tackle positions. This should provide Arizona with a much-needed boost on defense. Having said that, the Cardinals have many spots to improve upon, which they can do so in the draft.

The Arizona Cardinals have only 6 picks to select from in this year’s draft. They will have one selection in each round, barring round 6, while their first round pick is at number 16 overall. Arizona has done a pretty good job during free agency this season, but even then, each pick will be important as they look to build on the momentum from last season.

Positional Needs for the Cardinals

There is a case for Arizona to keep improving its defense on all three levels, from the defensive line to the secondary. If they can find impact players, the Cardinals could use more help at the linebacker position and the cornerback position as well.

Some of the players that Arizona could target in the first round with their 16th overall pick include Mykel Williams and Shemar Stewart on the edge, and Jahdae Barron at corner.

On offense, it is paramount that they draft a starting caliber guard, either left or right. Moreover, while they will have Marvin Harrison Jr. starting his second year, if they can find another quality receiver, that will give them options at WR2 or WR3.
