Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry had his first dunk in six years. On March 1, Saturday, the Warriors were up against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center. While the game saw the struggling 76ers snap their nine-game losing streak by out-scoring the Warriors 126-119, Curry had a wow moment in the matchup.

With seven minutes remaining on the clock, Curry got a pass from the other side of the court. He took a dribble, elevated and pulled off a one-handed dunk.

The 36-year-old, who was coming on the back of a stellar 56-point performance against the Magic in the previous game, finished with 29 points. Curry had five rebounds and 13 assists, and finished with 5-of-12 from three pointers.

Notably, it was Curry’s first dunk since the 2018-19 season, and helped the Warriors bridge the gap 109-104.

Following the game, Curry joined James Harden as the only players in the history of the league with over 50 games with 10+ assists and 5+ three pointers.

“Probably be my last dunk”

Following the game, Stephen Curry talked about his first dunk in six years, and said that it was probably his last dunk of his career.

Speaking about it, Curry told reporters, “That would probably be my last dunk though. I am calling it right now, that was the last one you are gonna see.”

Following the dunk, Curry had pointed towards the bench. When asked about his gesture, Curry revealed tgat it was pointed towards Jerry Stackhouse because he asked him to dunk at shootaround today.

“Ironically this morning, Stackhouse said he wanted to see a dunk. He has said it all year and I haven’t heard that in years and it happened tonight,” said Curry.

“It’s kind of funny though. It was a very random comment this morning and the fact that it happened is hilarious,” the two-time All-Star MVP added.

The Game

The Philadelphia 76ers put an end to their nine-game losing streak as they took down the seventh-seeded Warriors. Quentin Grimes played a key role for the side, who are now without star Joel Embiid for the rest of the season. Grimes had his career night, finishing with 44 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Kelly Oubre Jr. also had quite a night as he finished with 20 points, two rebounds and one assist. Paul George chipped in 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

On the other hand, Curry led the charts for the Warriors, as their five-game winning streak came to an end. The side was without their newly-acquired star Jimmy Butler with back spasms. Quinten Post added 16 points for the Warriors while Draymond Green had 13 points to contribute.

At the end of the first quarter, the Warriors and the 76ers were tied 30-30. While Curry led his side with 12 points and four assists, Grimes had his first-quarter high with 12 points on 100% shooting. In the second quarter, the 76ers had a 9-1 run that turned their 6-point deficit into an early 2-point lead. They continued their momentum and had a 8-0 run to make it a 41-37 lead.

By halftime, the 76ers were leading their rivals 67-55, as Grimes had 20 points. At the end of the third quarter, the 76ers led the Warriors 96-90, while Grimes had his career high with 38 points on 16-for-20 shooting.

While the Warriors had a 22-9 run in the fourth quarter, they fell short, owing to Grimes’ 44-pointer performance and Tyrese Maxey’s 12 assists.

The Sixers will now be up against the Trail Blazers on Monday, March 3, whereas the Warriors lock horns with the Hornets on the same day.
