Joel Embiid ruled out for the remainder of the season

Joel Embiid is ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The Philadelphia 76ers have released a statement and the inevitable has happened. Joel Embiid is ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The franchise is working with the medical experts to find the best solution possible for Embiid’s return. The 76ers have struggled in his presence and were 8-11 in the season. According to Shams Charania, Embiid was receiving frequent injections to play in the regular season.

The 76ers superstar had continuous issues in his left knee after suffering an injury in the previous season in January 2024. He suffered a torn lateral meniscus and made a rushed comeback in the 2024 playoff series vs the New York Knicks. Despite the surgery, Embiid showed no signs of improvement.

Since then, the former MVP’s left knee issues continued to develop and have taken a serious toll on his body. He has been a shadow of his former self and was shooting worse than his rookie year, averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

What’s next for the Philadelphia 76ers?

With Joel Embiid ruled out for the remainder of the season, the 76ers face a major setback in the 2024-25 campaign. Currently, they sit 12th in the Eastern Conference, 2.5 games behind the play-in spot.

The team has two clear options: tank for a top draft pick or make a run for the play-in. However, the franchise may avoid pushing for a meaningless play-in spot to protect the health of Paul George and Tyrese Maxey. Given that the 2025 NBA Draft is loaded with top talent, the 76ers are likely to prioritize the former option.
