Just when the NBA world thought trades this year couldn’t get wilder after Luka’s deal to the Los Angeles Lakers, Shams Charania dropped another bombshell. Miami Heat traded Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in a multi-team trade. With the deal, Butler’s glorious yet controversial saga in Miami came to an end.

As per the deal which involves the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons, Warriors will get Butler in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a protected 2025 first-round pick.

The Warriors will also send guard Dennis Schroder to the Jazz, whereas Utah will send P.J. Tucker to Buter’s former side. Warriors’ guard Lindy Waters will move to the Pistons, who will be joined by Josh Richardson from Miami.

Not only this, but following the trade, Butler has agreed to a new two-year, $121 million extension with the Warriors through 2026-27. He is also declining his 2025-26 player option for this new $121M deal.

Butler moved to the Heat in 2019 via a sign and trade with the 76ers in a multi-team deal, and achieved various accolades with the Florida-based side. However, the relationship between him and the franchise got strained due to multiple instances.

From Butler’s suspensions to him indicating that Miami is not the ideal place for him, several instances suggested that a trade was on the cards.

Butler played a total of six seasons with the Heat and in the current season, he is averaging at 17 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists across 25 games.
