Vancouver Whitecaps Eye Blockbuster Move for Thomas Muller

After reaching the final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Vancouver is eager to bolster its squad with Muller's leadership and intelligence.

Vancouver Whitecaps are reportedly in advanced talks to bring German football icon Thomas Muller to Major League Soccer. The signing, if completed, would be one of the most high-profile acquisitions in Canadian football history. The 35-year-old Bayern Munich legend recently ended his illustrious career in Germany.

Muller has publicly hinted at a move “across the pond” and Vancouver appears to be leading the race for his signature. Speaking recently about his future, Muller said, “My next club will be across the pond,” signaling his interest in moving to the MLS.

FC Cincinnati currently hold Muller’s discovery rights, which grants them exclusive MLS negotiating privileges for the forward. As per league rules, the Whitecaps must first negotiate with Cincinnati to acquire those rights before engaging in direct talks with MUller. This has led to an internal MLS tug-of-war, with Cincinnati reportedly demanding a steep fee to release the rights.

Muller Turns Down Offer From LAFC

Initially, LAFC were seen as frontrunners to land the 12-time Bundesliga champion, given their established partnership with Bayern Munich. However, Muller reportedly turned down an offer from LAFC, leaving Vancouver in pole position. The Whitecaps are said to be preparing a contract that runs through the 2026 season.

After reaching the final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup and mounting a serious charge in the Western Conference, Vancouver is eager to bolster its squad with Muller’s leadership and attacking intelligence. Few players in world football boast a resume like Müller’s: 756 appearances for Bayern Munich, 250 goals, 276 assists, 12 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.

Despite his age, Muller remains in top physical condition and has stated that he still has more to give at the highest level. His arrival would not only offer Vancouver a proven match-winner on the field but also a global spotlight off it, further establishing the club as a serious force in MLS.
