US Open 2025 – Aryna Sabalenka Shatters Multiple Records En Route US Open Final After Win Over Jessica Pegula

Can Sabalenka end 2025 with a Grand Slam?

What can we even say about Aryna Sabalenka that hasn’t already been said? She’s the world no.1 by a distance. And always finds a way to rise to the occasion, regardless of the surface or the situation. Even when Aryna Sabalenka falls behind like she did in the US Open semifinal, it almost seems inevitable that she’ll be back. But even after that, it’s surprising to see how many records Sabalenka has touched or broken after this win over Jessica Pegula.

Aryna Sabalenka Continues to Make the US Open Her Playground

Throughout her career, Sabalenka has been quite dominant on the courts. In fact, till now she has won 3 Singles Grand Slams and all have come in Hard-courts. Just how dominant has she been? Since 2023, Sabalenka has been in every hard-court Grand Slam final. She won the 2023 and 2024 Australian Open and lost the final this year. As for the US Open, Sabalenka has done something not seen since Serena Williams.

This is Sabalenka’s third straight final in the US Open. No player since Serena Williams has experienced this. The 27-year-old would be looking to make it two straight wins in the US Open and become one of the few to successfully defend her US Open title. However, that’s not the only remarkable thing about this final.

This also happens to be Sabalenka’s 3rd Grand Slam final. It’s been almost 10 years since Serena Williams played 3 finals in 2016. Once again, no other player has achieved that feat since. That year, Williams won one of those three finals (Wimbledon) and was a semi-finalist in one other event. Sounds familiar? Sabalenka could be looking at something similar, too. She hasn’t won any final yet and could end that drought in the US Open.

Sabalenka Faces the Ultimate Test In the Final

Aryna Sabalenka has developed a peculiar American problem this year. In all three of the previous Grand Slams, an American has prevented her winning it all. In Australia, it was Madison Keys who defeated her in the Final. Then in France, Coco Gauff got the better of her. Finally, in Wimbledon, it was Amanda Anisimova who ended Sabalenka’s journey early in the semifinals.

As it turns out, Sabalenka will be facing the same Anisimova in the final of the US Open. In a way this final has turned into a redemption tour for both its competitors. For Anisimova, it’s to forget the double bagel she experienced in the Wimbledon final. And for Sabalenka, it’s the time to end that weird American problem she has faced this year. So who will win in this match? Jessica Pegula did show that Sabalenka’s armor can be pierced (she did win the first set and frustrated Sabalenka). Would that play any role in this final?
