US Open 2025 – Amanda Anisimova Keeps the American Dream Alive With Naomi Osaka win, to Face Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open Final

Can the American win the US Open and seal her redemption?

Who said it takes a long time to get redemption? Just short of two months after experiencing one of tennis’ most humiliating defeats, Amanda Anisimova is once again in a Grand Slam final. After defeating Iga Swiatek in the 2025 US Open Quarterfinals, Anisimova has now beaten Naomi Osaka in the Semifinals. There was drama, emotions, and a lot of nerves in a match that tested Anisimova in every way possible. But the American Dream is alive in the US Open, and Anisimova is ever so close to getting her full redemption.

Amanda Anisimova Wins a Topsy-Turvy Contest

It wasn’t an easy win for Anisimova this time. The 24-year-old was physically spent, emotionally exhausted in a match where she had to dig deep to win every game. In fact, it wasn’t until the 3rd set that Anisimova found herself in the driver’s seat. The American continuously chased Naomi Osaka and never let her get away with the match.

One can’t say that these women were at their best today. No, they were showing signs of being in a long tournament. They made errors and experienced momentary lapses in their focus. Osaka won the first set in the tiebreakers, then in the second set, Anisimova got lucky. The Japanese made three consecutive errors in the tiebreak, and that suddenly put Anisimova ahead. And that was the moment the match shifted.

The third set was all about Amanda Anisimova finding the energy to see through the match. She went ahead, using her forehands and backhands perfectly. The crowd cheered her on, hoping to see at least one American in the US Open final. In the end, after a grueling 3-hour match, Anisimova won 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 and found herself in her 2nd consecutive Grand Slam final.

Anisimova Gets Emotional After the Win

“It means the world, I am trying to process that right now,” Amanda Anisimova said after the match. “It’s just absolutely a dream come true.” The American couldn’t hide her emotions. While this is her second consecutive Grand Slam Final, it’s the first time Anisimova is playing a US Open final. Most importantly, Anisimova is the only American who’ll be playing the singles final this year.

“This has been a dream of mine, like, forever, to be in the US Open final, and obviously the hope is to be the champion,” admitted the 24-year-old. Anisimova later revealed that there were a lot of nerves before the match. However, one can’t help but think that the nerves will be even higher in the final, especially when she’ll be facing Aryna Sabalenka.

It’s not like Anisimova doesn’t know how to beat Sabalenka. She has already defeated the world No.1 in the semifinal of Wimbledon this year. More importantly, Sabalenka too showed some vulnerability during her match with Jessica Pegula. So can Anisimova completely erase the memories of the Wimbledon final by beating Sabalenka?
