‘Have to Let It Go’ – Iga Swiatek Admits Not Working On One Weakness Proved Fatal Against Amanda Anisimova After 2025 US Open Exit

Who’d have expected this? Just 2 months after Iga Swiatek gave Amanda Anisimova a humbling double bagel loss, the American got her revenge. Anisimova has given the 2025 US Open one of its biggest upsets by defeating Swiatek 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals of the event. However, as Anisimova revealed later, it took a very different strategy for her to get this win.

Amanda Anisimova Conquers Iga Swiatek In the US Open

“I watched them [highlights] back, as painful as it was, just to see what I can avoid or what went wrong,” Amanda Anisimova said after the match. She was, obviously, talking about her shockingly one-sided Wimbledon Final loss against Iga Swiatek. Despite the difficulty of watching herself lose that badly, Anisimova had to do it if she wanted to beat Swiatek.

But what really changed in Flushing Meadows? Anisimova, before the US Open, was having a mediocre run in the North American swing. However, she has been locked in since the event began. Till now, the 24-year-old has only lost 1 set. So what really changed? At least, in the match against Swiatek, it was Anisimova’s returns and hard-hitting.

Iga Swiatek’s service has been a glaring weak point of hers in this year’s US Open. Even she accepts it as something that she didn’t necessarily work on throughout the tournament. “I kind of maybe didn’t serve the best throughout the whole tournament,” Swiatek said of her serve, “but I think because she returned so well that you could see, you know, the bigger difference,” said Swiatek. “I wasn’t practicing it in between matches anyway, so I kind of have to let it go and just focus on next one.”

Anisimova just managed to exploit it early on and put relentless pressure on Swiatek. Ultimately, the one weakness of Swiatek proved to be a deathblow to her US Open hopes and has now given Anisimova a chance to play her career’s first US Open semi-final.

Swiatek’s Quest for World No. 1 Faces a Setback

Everyone knows Iga Swiatek has been on a relentless run since Wimbledon. She’s probably been the most in-form tennis player since then, and that has led to a dramatic rise in rankings. Falling as low as 8th after the French Open, Swiatek has managed to climb to 2nd since then. While she’s still around 4000 points below Aryna Sabalenka, a deeper run in the US Open could’ve helped her close the gap.

But now with Sabalenka in the semi-finals, Swiatek has faced a setback on that quest. Still, with the Asian Swing and WTA Finals on the horizon, she’ll have plenty of opportunity to equal Sabalenka. Till then, it’ll be fun to watch Amanda Anisimova in action against Naomi Osaka. Could Anisimova do the unthinkable and play her second Grand Slam final in a row after coming back to the sport? That certainly would give the American crowd someone huge to cheer for.
