UFC Qatar Results – Arman Tsarukyan Dominates Dan Hooker; Ian Garry Makes His Case For The Welterweight Title; Myktebek Orolbai, Waldo Cortes-Acosta Get Finishes And More!

UFC Qatar became another international fight card for the promotion this weekend. Middle Eastern events have become regular occurrences for the promotion recently. Abu Dhabi hosts multiple cards annually with massive success throughout the year. Saudi Arabia has also gotten into the combat sports business aggressively. These regions provide new markets and enormous financial opportunities for everyone involved.

Doha joined that list as the latest destination for octagon action. The card featured several high-stakes matchups with title implications throughout the lineup. Lightweight contenders battled for positioning in one of the sport’s deepest divisions. The welterweight division also saw crucial movement toward championship opportunities developing. UFC Qatar results delivered drama, finishes, and clear statements from winners all night long.

UFC Qatar Main Card Results

Arman Tsarukyan submitted Dan Hooker in the main event to cement his title shot. The Armenian contender dominated the City Kickboxing fighter with superior striking and grappling. Hooker attempted guillotine chokes twice but Tsarukyan escaped both attempts. The second escape put Arman in top position where he secured an arm-triangle choke. Hooker tapped at 3:34 of round two. Tsarukyan has now won five straight and ten of his last eleven.

Ian Garry earned the biggest victory of his career against Belal Muhammad. The Irishman controlled the former champion over three rounds. Muhammad tried pressing forward and closing distance throughout the fight. But Garry welcomed him forward and countered beautifully with cleaner striking. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28 for The Future. This puts Garry squarely in the welterweight title picture after bouncing back. He (17-1) suffered his only career loss last December to Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Myktybek Orolbai starched Jack Hermansson with a devastating right hand knockout. The Kyrgyzstani welterweight maintained forward pressure before landing the perfect shot. Hermansson dropped to the canvas in a heap at 2:46 of round one. Waldo Cortes-Acosta stepped in on short notice and knocked out Shamil Gaziev. He dropped Gaziev multiple times before finishing with a thudding right hand. That’s two first-round finishes this month for the Dominican heavyweight!

Volkan Oezdemir lived up to his ‘No Time’ nickname perfectly. The Swiss veteran knocked out Alonzo Menifield at 1:27 of round one. He landed a left uppercut followed by a knee that ended things. Kyoji Horiguchi submitted Tagir Ulanbekov in his successful UFC return. The 35 year old former title challenger looked fantastic after nine years away. He battered Ulanbekov’s leg with kicks before securing a rear-naked choke. The submission came at 2:18 of round three.

UFC Qatar Prelim Results

Luke Riley closed the prelims with a spectacular knockout debut. The undefeated Liverpool featherweight dropped Bogdan Grad with a beautiful left hook. The finish came just 30 seconds into round two. Riley moved to 12-0 with his third straight stoppage victory. Nicolas Dalby earned a split decision over Saygid Izagakhmaev in a grinding battle. The 41 year old Danish veteran bounced back from his first knockout loss. Asu Almabayev submitted Alex Perez with a standing guillotine choke early in round three. The Kazakh flyweight turned a competitive fight into his biggest UFC win.

Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev made an explosive debut with the fastest light heavyweight submission ever. He finished Rafael Cerqueira in just 33 seconds with a rear-naked choke. Aleksandre Topuria dominated Bekzat Almakhan for a unanimous decision victory. Ismail Naurdiev knocked out Ryan Loder with one right hook. Nurullo Aliev swept the scorecards against Shem Rock. Denzel Freeman won his UFC debut over Marek Bujlo via decision.
