UFC Bantamweight Rankings – Aftermath Of UFC Fight Night: Cejudo vs. Song

Zaid Quraishi

Song Yadong’s win over Henry Cejudo shakes up the bantamweight rankings, propelling him closer to a title shot

The UFC‘s bantamweight division has always been a shark tank of talented fighters. From Dominick Cruz’s legendary reign to TJ Dillashaw’s controversial era, and now Merab Dvalishvili’s dominance, the 135-pound weight class never disappoints. This weekend’s UFC Fight Night in Seattle added another chapter to this storied division.

The rising star Song Yadong got probably the biggest win of his career. The former two-division UFC champion and Olympiad Henry Cejudo couldn’t bring back his glory days. The main event was marred with fouls and the 5 round battle was called off just after three rounds after Cejudo couldn’t see out of his left eye.

What Is Next For The UFC Bantamweight Division?

Looking ahead, the bantamweight division is buzzing with potential matchups. Merab Dvalishvili needs a challenger with either Petr Yan or Sean O’Malley standing as potential challengers. Yadong’s victory puts him right back in the conversation for a title shot, although not an immediate one.

There will probably be a rematch between these two fighters again. If Song Yadong continues to win one or two more times, he may be looking at his first crack at the title. There may even be a chance that he will take on Umar Nurmagomedov, who he was rumored to fight last year. The competition on the top 5 level of bantamweight is extraordinary. Will the rising prospect be able to compete at that level remains to be seen!
