Dillon Danis has built his career on controversy and chaos. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt became famous training with Conor McGregor before launching his own combat sports career. He’s competed sporadically while spending most of his time on social media stirring up feuds and promoting various ventures. That approach finally caught up with him in a major way at UFC 322 on November 15 at Madison Square Garden. What should have been a routine cageside appearance turned into a violent melee that’s now haunting his calendar.

Danis was sitting cageside, and allegedly, he had decided to taunt many fans and fighters who had come there to watch Islam Makhachev fight for the welterweight title against Jack Della Maddalena. Then members of Makhachev’s entourage jumped him. Video footage showed Danis getting punched from behind by multiple people, with Magomed ‘Chanco’ Zaynukov featured prominently in the assault. The incident immediately went viral and sparked investigations by New York City authorities.

Dillon Danis Removed From December 20 Fight

Dillon Danis was scheduled to defend his Misfits MMA light heavyweight title on December 20 in Dubai against Anthony Taylor. On paper, it looked like business as usual for Danis; another unconventional combat sports appearance that would generate attention and paychecks. But the injuries from UFC 322 didn’t fade with the headlines. They lingered, got worse, and finally forced Misfits Boxing to cancel the bout. Misfits Boxing released their own official statement that left zero room for interpretation.

“Unfortunately, Dillon Danis will not be competing at ‘The Fight Before Christmas’ event in Dubai on December 20, 2025. Independent physicians have determined that he is not medically cleared to compete at this time due to the melee that occurred at Madison Square Garden last month.”

Apparently Danis tried pushing through the injuries and wanted to fight anyway. But doctors wouldn’t budge on their medical decision. While no specific injury was disclosed publicly, the link to UFC 322 was made crystal clear.

Legal Troubles May Still Be Coming

New York City mayor Eric Adams publicly addressed the UFC 322 brawl and promised accountability. With Adams in office until January 1, 2026, the timing matters for any potential charges. New York doesn’t usually let high-profile incidents at major venues slide without consequences.

Misfits Boxing insists Dillon Danis will return to competition in 2026, but that comeback will happen under much darker clouds than before. Between the medical issues, the lifetime UFC ban, and potential legal troubles, UFC 322 may go down as the turning point where Danis’ antics finally cost him more than they gained.
