UFC 320 Predictions – Ateba Gautier vs Treston Vines Preview, Predictions And MMA Betting Odds

Zaid Quraishi

UFC 320 features a middleweight bout that has mismatch written all over it. Ateba Gautier vs Treston Vines is happening because someone had to step up on short notice. This fight showcases one of the promotion’s scariest prospects against a regional fighter making his debut.

Gautier has been an absolute terror since arriving on the Contender Series scene. ‘The Silent Assassin’ earned his UFC contract by destroying opponents with frightening ease. Gautier was originally scheduled to face Ozzy Diaz this weekend. Then Diaz pulled out of the fight, leaving matchmakers scrambling for a replacement. Vines made what many would call a questionable decision by accepting this fight on just four days notice.

The 29 year old was last seen competing with Alabama Fighting Championship back in August. He was actually preparing to fight for LFA next week when the UFC came calling with this opportunity. Taking a UFC debut against a knockout artist on four days notice is either incredibly brave or slightly insane. Multiple fighters almost certainly said no before Vines accepted. That should tell fans everything about how dangerous this matchup appears on paper.

Ateba Gautier vs Treston Vines Preview

Gautier stands an imposing 6’4″ with a massive 81 inch reach for the middleweight division. His striking output is absolutely ferocious at 6.93 significant strikes landed per minute with excellent 61% accuracy. That combination of volume and precision is rare and deadly. He absorbs just 2.19 strikes per minute with 52% striking defense.

The grappling stats show Gautier as a pure striker who hasn’t needed wrestling yet. He’s attempted zero takedowns in his UFC appearances because knockouts come too fast. His takedown defense is excellent at 90%, showing he can stuff shots when opponents desperately try to survive. He’s never submitted anyone, averaging zero per fight. At just 23 years old with an 8-1 record, Gautier is a switch-stance fighter who can attack from multiple angles.

Vines stands 6’1″ with a 79 inch reach, solid measurements but giving up three inches in height and two inches in reach. Vines has absolutely zero UFC statistics because this is his debut. Fans are flying completely blind on what he brings to the cage. At 29 years old with a 10-3 record built in regional promotions, Vines has experience but nothing close to this level of competition.

The round total for this fight is set at just 0.5 rounds, with the over priced at -235. The under is +180.The sportsbook is essentially saying there’s a strong chance Gautier ends this before we even reach the halfway point of round one.

Ateba Gautier vs Treston Vines Predictions And Picks

Gautier has shown zero mercy to his previous opponents. He comes forward with volume, power, and technical striking that overwhelms regional-level competition. His reach advantage allows him to land clean shots while staying outside danger zones. Vines won’t have had time to develop any real game plan or adjust his training to specifically counter Gautier’s style. Four days is barely enough time to cut weight and make travel arrangements, let alone prepare for a UFC debut.

If we bet on the fight, we are going with Ateba Gautier to win by KO/TKO.
