Bruno Silva’s MMA Journey

Bruno Silva born on March 16, 1990, began his MMA journey in 2011, driven by a childhood passion for martial arts sparked by training capoeira in age 10. After a 7-2-1 record in Brazil’s regional circuit, he tried out for the Ultimate Fighter in 2014, winning his preliminary bout via TKO but losing in the quarterfinals by submission.

Moving to Arizona in 2015 to train at Fight Ready MMA, Silva sharpened his skills, earning the World Fighting Federation Flyweight title and a draw against future UFC fighter Casey Kenney. In the midst of him bettering his fighting skills, Silva balanced his training along with personal challenges, including the loss of his father, which fueled his dedication to his craft even more.

Silva’s UFC debut came in October 2019 against Khalid Taha which was ruled a no contest. However, Silva went on to lose two straight fights via unanimous decisions. He rebounded with four Performance of the Night finishes, including knockouts over JP Buys, Victor Rodriguez, Cody Durden, and a submission of Tyson Nam. Despite a recent loss to Manel Kape, Silva will now face Van aiming to climb the ranks of the flyweight division. His currently record stands at 14-6-2.

Joshua Van’s MMA Journey

Born October 10, 2001 in Hakha, Myanmar, Van and his family moved to Malaysia at 10 due to political unrest and then settled down in Houston, Texas at 12. Van made his professional MMA debut in 2021, and fought exclusively for Fury Fighting Championship, where he went on a 7-1 run, and eventually won the promotion’s flyweight title.

Van made his UFC debut in June 2023, getting a split decision win over Zhalgas Zhumagulov. He then went on to win two more fights, before suffering a setback knockout loss against Charles Johnson in July 2024, only the second loss of his career. Since then Van has followed win a three-fight win streak beating Rei Tsuruya, Cody Durden, and Edgar Chairez via unanimous decisions.

Van was initially supposed to take on Silva on March earlier this year, at UFC 313. However, Silva pulled out due to undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Rei Tsuruya, who lost the bout. Van’s MMA record is currently 13-2-0.
