Ronaldo and Conceição Shine as Martinez Eyes Vitinha for Ballon d’Or 2025
Portugal marked a historic win over Germany as they came from behind in the 2-1 win in the Nations League Semifinals at Allianz Arena. After being beaten in the past five games since 2000, Cristiano Ronaldo’s winner in the 68th minute completed the comeback for the Portuguese.
After a tight first half, both the sides came with strong intent after the break. Aiming for a spot in the finals the home side was allowed to create very little given their possession. Portugal who attempted 17 shots throughout the game will arguably called the side that deserves the Nations League 2025 Finals spot.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez had a strong take on midfielder Vitinha in his press conference after the game. The PSG midfielder who was instrumental against Germany was hailed to be a strong candidate for Ballon d’Or 2025 as per Martinez.
Talking about his abilities and the season Vitinha has had, Martines in his post-game interview said:
“Vitinha is a player who has been essential for PSG to win everything they have won. He deserves to be awarded the Ballon d’Or”
Vitinha had an impactful season with PSG as they won the Treble a week ago following their UCL Triumph over Inter Milan. Moreover, after the Portuguese had a decent final, the 25-year-old has been in the conversations of the Ballon d’Or 2025 list of odds.
Vitinha has scored seven goals and three assists for PSG this season playing in 52 games. Having a passing accuracy of nearly 95%, Vitinha also completed most passes by any player in the Champions League 2025. These stats reflect his role as a dynamic box-to-box midfielder, often playing as a central midfielder which he has thrived in.
Portugal will face either Spain or France in the finals of the UEFA Nations League 2025. With another gold medal in sight for Vitinha, his influence on the game can count on his conversations in the Ballon d’Or as rivals like Lamine Yamsl and Ousmane Dembele will also be in action.
