Travis Hunter eyeing special NFL career with opportunity to play both sides of the ball!
Colorado Buffaloes star player and one of the top talents in this year’s upcoming NFL draft Travis Hunter is a sensational player. He is one of the rare talents in football who has the ability to play on both sides of the ball and he has done so splendidly during his collegiate career.
The two-way star started his collegiate career at Jackson State where he played one year for the Tigers in 2022 following which he transferred to Colorado where he played during his sophomore and junior seasons.
Hunter was so special for the Buffaloes that his overall performance as a wide receiver and a corner earned him the Heisman Trophy for the 2024 season. In the 12 games he played for the Buffaloes last season, Hunter had 92 receptions for 1,152 receiving yards, and 14 touchdowns as a receiver while making 21 tackles, 4 interceptions, 11 pass deflections, and forcing a fumble as a cornerback.
The Florida native lives and dreams of football. He has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play both positions at the college level and wishes to do the same even as a professional in the NFL where the stakes are higher and the competition is fiercer.
Back at the NFL Combine towards the end of February, Hunter decided to enter and enlist himself as a corner rather than a wide receiver. This decision was perhaps aided by his former head coach and former cornerback in the NFL, Deion Sanders. Whatever the case may be, Hunter did not partake in the on-field drills but was present for the interview sessions.
Flash forward to the Colorado Buffaloes’ Pro Day which took place a few days ago, Hunter was seen on the field catching passes for his former teammate and quarterback Shedeur Sanders. This was enough for the media to jump in and ask him the biggest question on everyone’s mind. During a media session with SiriusXM NFL Radio, he was asked about whether or not he wants to play as a receiver or a cornerback in the NFL to which the youngster quickly answered that he wants to play both positions.
Playing both sides of the ball at the NFL level is something almost unheard of as only a handful have ever managed to play two different positions and that too with success. But, when pressed further on how many snaps he could play in a game at the professional league, Hunter, without hesitation, had the following to say.
“All of them. If they give me the chance and the opportunity to do it.”
Reporters further asked if there was even enough time for him to succeed at both positions given that it would be challenging to be at offensive meetings, defensive meetings, wide receiver meetings, and defensive backs meetings, to which Hunter again had the perfect answer.
“Well, we kind of got 24 hours in a day, we probably sleep for about 8 of those, so we probably got 16 more…”

Hunter’s response generated laughter in the room, but when you think about it from an athlete’s point of view, it shows the level of dedication the youngster is willing to put into his game. This can only be possible if a person is so dedicated to his craft that he has nothing else on his mind but to become the best.
Irrespective of where Hunter lands in the draft and wherever that team decides to play him, be it receiver, cornerback, or maybe even both, one thing is for sure – Travis Hunter is here to play ball and you better be ready to match his intensity.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
