Tottenham Hotspur have clinched their first major trophy since 2008 as they won the Europa League on Wednesday night. They defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final at San Mames, Bilbao to end a long trophy drought. The decisive moment came in the 42nd minute through a Brennan Johnson goal.

A cross from Pape Matar Sarr flew in and found Johnson who took a shot. The shot deflected off Luke Shaw and found the back of the net. Spurs defended thereafter the entire match like their lives depended on it and managed to pull it off successfully. For Manchester United, the defeat was a significant setback.

They heavily dominated possession and created opportunities. However, they failed to convert chances into goals, courtesy of a relentless Spurs defense. Manager Ruben Amorim’s substitutions, including the introductions of Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee, seemed like the right ones.

Ange Postecoglou, known for his attacking philosophy, showcased a defensive masterclass when they needed it. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were absolutely instrumental. Hence, this win was significant for Spurs on many levels. This was also their third UEFA Cup/Europa League title. They are now only the second club to achieve the feat after Liverpool.
