Tommy Paul vs Johannus Monday Preview, Prediction and Betting Odds for 2025 Wimbledon First Round

Gulshan Sharma

Tommy Paul and Johannus Monday will be playing each other for the first time.

The US No. 2, Tommy Paul will kick off his 2025 Wimbledon campaign against Johannus Monday, the local boy in the opening round. Paul reached the quarterfinals in 2024 and the 28-year-old would look to go ahead this year considering the recent form. On the other hand, Johannus Monday failed to reach the main draw in his last two grass-court events before heading to Wimbledon.

Tommy Paul vs Johannus Monday Preview

Tommy Paul enters the Wimbledon championship with no grass-court victory this year. He was recently defeated by Dan Evans in Eastbourne opening round. However, he remained consistent in Grand Slams, reaching quarterfinals at both Australian Open and Roland Garros. He has maintained his place in the top-15 through smart gameplay. Last year, he had a quarterfinal run in the Wimbledon and secured 10 grass-court wins from last season.

Johannus Monday is the former college No.1 in the U.S. but got a support from the British federation. He failed to reach the main-draw in last two grass-court events but his victory against top-100 player Christopher O’Connell in Eastbourne qualifiers helped him to catch the ticket to London. This season, he went 26–12, including a Futures title. Meanwhile, he has struggled on the grass with a 4-4 season record. He is making a main-draw debut and this match will also be played on Centre Court.

Tommy Paul vs Johannus Monday Wimbledon 2025 Prediction

Tommy Paul is more composed and an in-form Grand Slam player compared to Johannus Monday. The British ace brings energy to the game but he will feel the pressure of facing a top-15 player on Centre Court. His serve cannot dominate Tommy Paul, who offers high groundstrokes, and reliable first serve.

Prediction: Tommy Paul to win in four sets.

Tommy Paul vs Johannus Monday Wimbledon 2025 Betting Odds

As the US No. 2, Tommy Paul brings both record and pressure into this matchup. His form this season backs up the odds (1/10 in his favor), and his grass-court experience only strengthens his case. Monday, however, is playing his first ATO main-draw fixture and he can push the game to four sets only. The odds back the American ace to prevail.
