“This is the last ride”- Draymond Green reveals emotional conversation with Stephen Curry after Jimmy Butler trade

Just when the world thought that the NBA trade couldn’t get more surprising after the Luka Doncic deal, the Miami Heat dropped a bombshell by sending their star forward Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Butler’s move was on the cards, but definitely not to the Warriors.

There were talks that the former Heat star could move to the Phoenix Suns, and even Butler dropped hints about what could have been his next franchise. However, the deal didn’t materialize and Stephen Curry got a new teammate.

Jimmy headed to the Warriors in a five-team trade and signed a two-year extension. As expected, the deal left everyone in surprise and drew reactions from fans as well as the Dubs. Recently, the Warriors veteran, Draymond Green, revealed how his teammate and superstar Stephen Curry reacted to the unexpected deal.

Green, who has been quite struggling with injuries, revealed on “The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis” that they both reflected on their finite time in the league. Curry, who led Team USA to the 2024 Paris Olympics gold has been delivering excellent performances. However, it seems that the 36-year-old is aware that the time is near.

“Steph, he looked like he got belief after the trade,” revealed Green.

“He looked at me and he said, ‘Man, it’s crazy because it just dawned on me that, like, this is it. This is the last ride.’ And I said, ‘Let’s do it.’ It was an emotional moment,” Draymond continued.

Speaking of their individual performances this season, Curry is averaging at 23.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game this season. On the other hand, 34-year-old Green is averaging at 8.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game this season.

In the same podcast, the four-time NBA Champion, Green, analyzed the pair of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler. The six-time NBA All-Star has played three games for the Warriors so far, where the side recorded two wins and one loss.

In his first game as a Warrior, Butler came up with 25 points, two rebounds and four assists to help the side record a 132-111 win against the Bulls.

Green discussed the partnership between Butler and Curry with his co-host, Baron Davis, and said that they both have the same yet different techniques to play the game.

“I understand what Steph is saying and I agree. Like, Steph just look more free. He look like he got belief… One of the most incredible things Steph does is play without the ball. Jimmy has that same thing,” Green told Davis.

“When Steph say, ‘Yo, we have opposite games.’ It’s on so many different levels. The way Steph is running around to find an opening to get the ball, Jimmy is just working on the backside. It’s crazy. They break the defense down the same way but different,” he added.

Notably, the Warriors (27-27) recorded a 111-107 loss to the Mavericks, where Butler finished with 21 points, Green with 13 points and Curry recorded 25 points.
