Draw Analysis – Not An Easy Path for the Top American

This year, Fritz finds himself in the top half, positioned to potentially clash with Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. His campaign starts against either Borna Coric, the 2022 Cincinnati champion, or the gritty Christopher O’Connell. That’s a deceptively tricky opener. Coric knows these courts well, and O’Connell’s baseline steadiness can drag matches.

Should Fritz survive that, he’ll likely face the dangerous Lorenzo Sonego, the 31st seed whose heavy forehand and clay-court grit have translated well to hard courts in recent seasons. Then comes a potential round-of-16 minefield with Flavio Cobolli (15), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (17), and rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca, all floating threats.

A quarterfinal spot likely puts him across the net from either 2024 finalist Frances Tiafoe or 7th seed Holger Rune. Both are high-variance players, as Rune brings raw explosiveness, while Tiafoe has a habit of peaking in American hard-court events. Either matchup would test Fritz’s temperament and tactical clarity.

Possible Opponents

If Fritz reaches the final four, a blockbuster clash with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner could await. The Italian has dominated 2025 with a relentless baseline game and improved serve, and while Fritz owns wins over Sinner in the past, he’d enter as the underdog. Still, in fast Cincy conditions, Fritz’s serve-forehand combo could do real damage.

Now, if Fritz manages to get past Sinner, a tall order but never out of the question in tennis, he could face Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, or Alexander Zverev in the final. On paper, any of those names could end his run. But could they?
