Carlos Alcaraz returns to Cincinnati with unfinished business. The world No. 2 leads the ATP Tour in match wins this season (48) and now sets his sights on a first title at the Cincinnati Masters. A year after an early shock exit to Gael Monfils, and a year before this, he suffered a final loss to Novak Djokovic in 2023. The 22-year-old Spaniard arrives with both form and focus, and a draw that demands it.

While top-seeded Jannik Sinner appears to have a smoother path, Alcaraz’s projected road is brimming with landmines. But if any player thrives in adversity, it’s Alcaraz.

Draw Analysis – Manageable for Alcaraz, Yet a Tough One

Following a first-round bye, Alcaraz will open against either Italian Mattia Bellucci or Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur, both capable but beatable. From there, however, the difficulty escalates fast. In the third round, Alcaraz is projected to face 26th seed Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutchman’s heavy hitting and all-court play can be dangerous, especially if the Spaniard starts slow.

The round of 16 could pit him against 16th seed Jakub Mensik, the 19-year-old Czech who won the Miami Open earlier this year, defeating Novak Djokovic. Mensik is one of the most promising hard-court talents on tour and has the tools to trouble even elite players with his fearless hitting.

The quarterfinals could bring a clash with sixth seed Alex de Minaur, who just captured the Washington title. Known for his relentless defense and elite movement, the Aussie is riding a wave of confidence and won’t be an easy out.

Possible Opponents – Stacked Path

If Alcaraz survives the early tests, he may have to battle either Alexander Zverev or fifth seed Ben Shelton in the semifinals. Both are power players with excellent hard-court play, and Zverev, in particular, looms as a serious obstacle. The German has been resurgent in 2025 and matches up well with Alcaraz in extended rallies.

A potential final could see him face top seed Jannik Sinner or fourth seed Taylor Fritz, each representing contrasting styles and rivalries Alcaraz knows well. With such a stacked path, Alcaraz’s title hopes depend on his explosive game, stamina and strategic adaptability. He has not yet won at the Cincinnati Masters, but this could be it.
