Tatiana Suarez fights in the Strawweight division of the UFC and is currently the number one contender for a title shot. She has a flawless record with 11-0-0 and is arguably the best wrestler in the UFC currently. She is a submission artist and won 6 of her 11 fights via submission. She is terrifying to deal with because of her strength and grappling skills, and when healthy, looks like the best female fighter in the world.
Suarez lives and dies by the quote “We don’t break, we break people.” She’s suffered a great deal of adversities throughout her career. Whether it injuries or personal health problems, she’s been through it all. Suarez, as she mentioned, “went through hell and back,” and is still standing. Even though she has been in title contention for many years, injuries held her back. In fact, once she recovered from her neck injury, she ended up hurting her knees . Her injuries kept her out for almost 4 years.
Once she recovered from her injuries, she returned to the UFC in 2023 and won back-to-back fights. Her two consecutives wins cemented her rankings as the number one contender for the Strawweight division title. It is truly inspiring how Suaraz has fought through a tonne of setbacks and is still one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. If she wins the fight against her opponent, Zhang Weili (current title holder), she will truly become what her fans thought she was… The best in the world.
In 2011, Suarez suffered a severe neck injury while training for 2012 London Olympics. However, there was more to the story than just her injury. An MRI scan revealed that Suarez had a node on her thyroid. When she visited an oncologist, they told her that she had thyroid cancer. It took over 18 months of treatment for Suarez and was told that she is cancer free. However, her dream to compete in the Olympics was shattered.
After recovering from cancer, Suarez shifted her focus to learning Jiu-Jitsu and her coaches suggested that she should compete in MMA. She ended up learning how to strike and eventually she started fighting. She had an impressive run and soon after, she was battling in the Ultimate Fighter. Suarez battled Amanda Cooper for the Ultimate Fighter Finale and won the fight via submission. A year after, she signed with the UFC and is 7-0 so far.
Tatiana Suarez will take on Zhang Weili for the Strawweight title at UFC 312. Weili will be the most experienced and the strongest fighter, Suarez has faced till date. Weili has a record of 25-3-0 and her last loss was four years ago against Rose Namajunas. Namajunas is the only fighter that has beaten Weili, so far, in the UFC. Nobody else has a clue on how to stop her.
It will be a tough competition for Suaraz. However, she is undefeated and nobody has overcome more obstacles than her.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
