Spain takes on Greece in a high intensity Hopman Cup 2025 tie.
As the highly entertaining 2025 Hopman Cup returns after a one year gap, Greece will take on Spain in a blockbuster Group Stage tie on Thursday. In the men’s singles, veterans Stefanos Tsitsipas and Roberto Bautista Agut will lock horns to earn bragging rights for their respective countries. Which of the two will open their account with a point for their team?
Both Tsitsipas and Bautista Agut are entering the Hopman Cup 2025 on the back of an opening round exit at Wimbledon. While the Greek sensation retired midway vs Valentin Royer, Bautista Agut lost in four sets to home favourite Cameron Norrie. The 37-year-old Spaniard is currently ranked just outside the Top-50, and is yet to win a singles title in 2025. Meanwhile, Tsitsipas hasn’t crossed the Round of 32 stage in his last five tournaments.
Goran Ivanisevic says he’s never seen a more unprepared player in his life than Stefanos Tsitsipas:

“He wants, but he doesn’t do anything. All ‘I want, I want’, but I don’t see that progress. I was shocked. I have never seen a more unprepared player in my life. With this knee,… pic.twitter.com/FqfbchuYLc
This week, Tsitsipas is teaming up with Despina Papamichail at the mixed team event. With renowned Greek WTA starlet Maria Sakkari opting out, it will be a new pairing for Team Greece. The 26-year-old has a 19-13 record this season, including a championship run in Dubai. Unlike his Spanish counterpart who is yet to register a Grand Slam win in 2025, Tsitsipas’ solitary victory came at Roland Garros vs Tomas Etcheverry. Bautista Agut is partnering Marina Bassols Ribera at the Hopman Cup.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has an unbeaten 3-0 record in the head-to-head against Roberto Bautista Agut so far. The 2025 Hopman Cup clash will be their fourth meeting, and second at a team event.
The last meeting between these two stars was three years ago – in the final of Mallorca. Tsitsipas rallied against RBA and the boisterous Spanish crowd to edge out a deciding set tiebreaker. The two meetings prior to this were also close calls – but the former World No. 3 used his grit and experience to emerge victorious.

Tsitsipas will be using the Hopman Cup as a test of his fitness, ahead of the North American swing. The Greek freak is returning from injury, and has a great record in team events. Meanwhile, Bautista Agut will aim to spoil the party on Thursday by upsetting the odds. A lot will depend on the preceding women’s singles, as the players will approach the encounter differently based on the previous result. Nonetheless, we believe Tsitsipas has the edge.
Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets.
The odds market suggests a supremely close contest between Tsitsipas and Bautista Agut at the Hopman Cup. There is no clear favourite, and the scales can tip to either side. Here are the odds for the clash (as per BetMGM):
