The Hopman Cup is being played in Italy between 16-20 July.
After losing in her opening encounter, Olympic silver medalist Donna Vekic aims to bounce back against Chloe Paquet at the 2025 Hopman Cup on Thursday. As Croatia takes on France in an important Round Robin tie, a lot will depend on the women’s singles between these two players. While Vekic holds the edge in terms of head-to-head and ranking, Paquet has what it takes to pull off an upset.
Vekic crumbled under pressure on the opening night, losing to home favourite Lucia Bronzetti in three sets. A former Wimbledon semifinalist, Vekic won merely two matches across four tournaments in this year’s grass court campaign. The 29-year-old’s best performance happens to be a Round of 16 run at the Australian Open – which has resulted in Vekic slipping out of the Top-50. A silver medalist from the 2024 Paris Olympics, the former World No. 17 turns to the mixed team event in order to revive her season.
On the other side of the net, will be a woman who is searching for her first tour-level trophy. Paquet lost her opening round battle at the French Open, following which she is yet to play a main draw match on the pro tour. At the age of 31, the Frenchwoman is currently ranked No. 156 in the world. Paquet made a breakthrough upon reaching the Roland Garros 3rd Round in 2024, but failed to capitalise on the momentum. Her overall record this year stands at 14-24 so far.

Donna Vekic leads the head-to-head against Chloe Paquet by 1-0. The solitary match was played on the grass courts of Nottingham, six years ago. Coming face to face in the Round of 16, No. 2 seed Vekic thrashed her French opposition in dismissive fashion. Paquet had entered the draw as a lucky loser, and beat Ankita Raina of India in her opening clash. Meanwhile, Vekic went on to become the runner-up at the same event.

Donna Vekic is the favourite to win this encounter on Thursday. Paquet does not have the variation in her game to torment Vekic’s baseline dominant game style, and the Croat can outhit her French counterpart to seal the win. Do not expect too many hiccups for Croatia in order to accomplish a 1-0 lead in their second tie.
Prediction: Donna Vekic in straight sets.
Vekic is the firm favourite in the betting market. According to the pre-match probability on the money line, she has over 70% chance of winning against Paquet. Here are all the important odds to know about, before placing your bets (as per BetMGM):
