Stefanos Tsitsipas has a 15-8 record in 2025 so far. The 26-year-old won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships between late February and early March – this happens to be his solitary title this year. Normally an expert on the red dirt, Tsitsipas reached the quarterfinals in Monte Carlo and Barcelona before making a Round of 32 exit in Madrid. Failing to retain his crown at the Principality meant that Tsitsipas has fallen to No. 19 in the ATP Rankings.

Currently ranked 20 places below his opponent, World No. 39 Alexandre Muller won his first and only career title this year – at the Hong Kong Open in January. He also reached the final in Rio, where Argentine sensation Sebastian Baez dominated him to capture the trophy. Aged 28, Muller has been on the pro circuit for over a decade now. The Frenchman saved two match points en route to a 2-6 6-3 7-6(5) win over Jiri Lehecka in Round-1.

Tsitsipas and Muller met in the Round of 32 at Shanghai last year. The two-time Grand Slam finalist comfortably won the first set, before Muller attempted a fightback in Set-2. However, it wasn’t enough to push the match into a deciding set. Friday’s Round of 64 will be the first time these two players stand across the net on clay.

Muller fended off two match points before earning his third Top-40 win of the season on Wednesday. The 28-year-old has some potent weapons in his arsenal, and could trouble the Tsitsipas backhand. Having come through qualifying in Rome last year, Muller has a lot of experience on these courts. However, there is no better experience than being a former finalist. Tsitsipas will attack the Frenchman’s serve and run around to hit more forehands in order to prevail.
