Skylar Thompson Robbed in Dublin Ahead of Steelers’ Week 4 NFL Clash With Vikings – What Happened to Skylar Thompson?

Steelers QB Skylar Thompson attacked in Dublin ahead of historic NFL game

Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was reportedly robbed and assaulted Friday night in Dublin, Ireland, ahead of the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported the incident Sunday morning, confirming Thompson sustained minor injuries but is otherwise fine. The incident occurred before Pittsburgh’s historic regular-season game at Croke Park, the first NFL contest played in Ireland and the second of seven international games this season.

Context and Details of the Incident

“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” a Steelers spokesperson told Pelissero. “We will have no further comment at this time, as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”

The 28-year-old Thompson, in his first season with Pittsburgh after two years with the Miami Dolphins, was already on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury sustained September 10. That injury had sidelined him from active duty, with Aaron Rodgers named as the starter and Mason Rudolph serving as backup for Sunday’s game against Minnesota at 2:30 p.m. ET.

According to The Irish Times, Thompson was attacked while en route to Dublin and did not require hospital treatment. The exact details of the robbery and assault remain unclear, with NFL security continuing to investigate.

Thompson’s journey to Pittsburgh has been one of determination. Drafted in the seventh round in 2022 by Miami, he started three games in his rookie season, including a playoff appearance, and earned a starting opportunity in 2023. His strong performance in training camp this year secured him a spot on the Steelers’ 53-man roster, before the hamstring injury halted his season.

The Steelers-Vikings matchup marks a bold step in the NFL’s global expansion strategy, but for Thompson, it will be remembered as a night marred by violence. Though his injuries are minor, the emotional impact may linger. Thompson remains with the team as they prepare for Sunday’s clash.

But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
