Giants’ season faces uncertainty after Malik Nabers suffers ACL tear
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers was carted off the field with a ACL injury during Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, casting a shadow over what had been a promising start for the team. The second-year star landed awkwardly on a deep pass attempt in the second quarter, immediately clutching his right knee before being helped off.
The injury occurred at MetLife Stadium with just over six minutes remaining in the first half. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, making his first NFL start, had taken a shot downfield after the Chargers jumped offside. Nabers’ knee appeared to give out as he went up for the ball, leaving him in visible agony. In a striking show of solidarity, nearly the entire Giants sideline rushed over to surround their top playmaker as the medical cart rolled onto the field.

Nabers covered his face with a towel but managed to raise a hand to acknowledge the ovation as he was driven away. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero later echoed that early concern, reporting that Nabers is to have torn his ACL. However, it is now confirmed that Nabers is now out for the season with an ACL tear, according to NFL . The loss could derail the Giants’ offensive rhythm. Nabers has emerged as their most dynamic weapon, posting 18 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns in just four games. All in all, without him, the Giants’ passing attack may struggle to generate the same explosiveness.
Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed at halftime that Nabers would not return but did not go into further detail. The ACL tear is now confirmed, which means Nabers will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, pushing his return timetable into 2026. In his absence, Wan’Dale Robinson is expected to become the primary target, while Jalin Hyatt and Darius Slayton take on expanded roles.

mma I’m an academic turned sports writer from Raipur, India, specializing in the NFL, MMA, and tennis at The Playoffs. I previously wrote for Sportskeeda and hold a B.A. and M.A. in History. My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
