NFL Week 4 Vikings vs. Steelers Injury Report – Major Updates on J.J. McCarthy and Andrew Van Ginkel; Steelers’ Jaylen Warren and DK Metcalf Headline Question Marks

Rudra Dubey

The Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers meet in Week 4 on Sunday at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, with both teams entering at 2-1. Minnesota’s Week 3 win over Cincinnati was a 48-10 rout that highlighted explosive scoring and a defense-driven performance with multiple takeaways. Pittsburgh rebounded from a Week 2 loss to Seattle with a 21-14 victory over New England, relying on timely stops and efficient red-zone execution.

Minnesota’s offense, led by a backup quarterback in Week 3, scored 48 points while capitalizing on short fields. The defense recorded multiple takeaways and limited the Bengals to just 10 points in a comprehensive win. With the OL rotation still in progress, Minnesota has maintained efficiency in both run and pass heading into this clash.

Pittsburgh is averaging about 24 points per game through three weeks based on game totals of 34, 17, and 21. The Steelers pair Aaron Rodgers’ leadership with a defense that has produced timely takeaways and situational stops through three weeks. Wins over the Jets and Patriots highlighted the team’s ability to manage middling yardage while closing drives and protecting leads.

The Vikings will be without several key starters in Dublin. Rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy (ankle) is ruled out, leaving Minnesota to lean again on its backup after last week’s 48-point explosion. Tight end Ben Yurosek (knee), edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel (neck), and offensive lineman Donovan Jackson (wrist) are also sidelined, thinning depth on both sides of the ball.

Christian Darrisaw and Harrison Smith were given rest days but carry no status concerns. Minnesota’s offensive front must adapt quickly against Pittsburgh’s pass rush without Jackson anchoring the interior.

The Steelers’ defense takes a hit with Alex Highsmith (ankle) out, removing a critical edge partner for T.J. Watt. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring) and running back Jaylen Warren (knee/rest) are questionable, both monitored closely after limited practices.

Veteran additions Darius Slay, Jonnu Smith, and Patrick Queen should be available despite early-week listings, while DK Metcalf and Cameron Heyward were managed on rest schedules. With Porter’s status uncertain, Pittsburgh’s secondary depth could be tested by Minnesota’s explosive wideouts, while Warren’s health may shape the backfield rotation alongside Najee Harris.
