Sky vs. Mystics Recap: Chicago End Eight-Game Losing Streak With Dominant Home Win Over Mystics

The Chicago Sky finally ended their eight-game losing streak, which had been their longest slump of the season. This win came against the Washington Mystics, who had previously beaten the Chicago Sky in six straight head-to-head encounters.

The Chicago Sky rode with the home court advantage and turned the momentum in their favor early on. They outscored the Mystics 25-10 in the first quarter. Despite Washington’s deeper roster, their confidence collapsed after that early deficit.

The Mystics responded with an 18-10 second quarter, but the Chicago Sky still managed to carry a slim lead into the second half. They were on the point again in the third quarter with a top performance.

The Sky vs. Mystics clash shifted decisively as Chicago pulled ahead with a 26-18 third quarter to tighten their grip. With the Sky in full control, the Washington Mystics had little left to respond in the final ten minutes Tuesday.

They registered a 78-64 win, snapping their 8 game losing skid. The Mystics won’t worry much, as the loss still leaves them ahead of ninth-seeded Chicago in the Eastern Conference standings. The playoff picture is already made up in the East, unlike the thrilling West.

Cardoso and Williams Crush the Mystics

The Sky vs. Mystics game saw some big performances, especially from the home side. Kamilla Cardoso recorded a strong double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Elizabeth Williams matched her effort, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 boards.

On the other end, Sonia Citron scored 13 points, and Kiki Iriafen scored 10. All the other players in the Washington Mystics side couldn’t even score in double digits.

Chicago HC Tyler Marsh said, “I think resiliency was kind of the messaging. We talked resiliency from how the course of the season has gone but also in game, in real time being able to bounce back from those low moments of the game and not letting it derail the next.”

He added, “That was the mission going into the game. Coming out of it, I spoke how I thought we did a really good job of handling the few runs that Washington was able to go on, and we turned over a little bit too in the second quarter, but I thought we bounced back pretty decently.”
