Shaquille O’Neal Blames Three-Point Shooting for NBA’s Declining Viewership

Shaquille O'Neal has given his honest opinion about NBA's viewership

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has broken down the potential reason behind the NBA’s falling viewership.

As per recent reports, the NBA has suffered a viewership decrease from last season. While everyone seems to have offered their own take on the subject, O’Neal seems to have a rather interesting one.

Shaquille O’Neal reveals his theory for dropping NBA viewership

During Thursday’s episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq”, the NBA legend and his co-host Adam Lefkoe were discussing the subject.

Lefkoe then proceeded to ask Shaquille O’Neal if he had any theory about the same. Responding to the question, the NBA legend pointed out that teams increasingly emphasizing on 3-point shooting is making the game more predictable and boring to watch. He said:

“I have a theory. It’s down because we’re looking at the same thing. Everybody’s running the same plays. At the damn top of the key, dribble handoff.”

He added:

“I was talking to a coach yesterday, and he said they want to shoot 50 3s, because they were trying to contemplate if I could play in this era…. and I’m like, ‘Well, how much you wanna make?’ ‘We wanna make 10 or 15 of them.'”I was like, ‘Well, that’s not gonna help you win.’ But I think everybody’s looking at the same thing, … I think it makes the game boring.”

While this is just a speculation from Shaquille O’Neal, the fact that teams are overly focused on making 3-point plays is a fact. That said, O’Neal’s point of view does seem to have some logic behind it.
