An exciting clash in the Round of 16 between Korda and Ruud for the first team
Sebastian Korda and Casper Ruud are set to meet in the third round of the 2025 ATP Madrid Open at the Caja Mágica in Madrid, Spain. Both players, seeded 23rd and 14th respectively, received byes into the second round. In the second round, Korda progressed with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 decisive third-set win over Federico Cina, while Ruud enjoyed a commanding win against Arthur Rinderknech.

Madrid marks the first meeting between the two, though they were initially slated to face off in the Round of 16 at the 2024 ATP Masters 1000 Canada. However, Ruud’s withdrawal due to health concerns allowed Korda to advance without a fight.

Both players, Korda and Ruud, enter the match in less-than-ideal form. Ruud, after a premature second-round exit at the 2025 Australian Open, finished as a runner-up at the Dallas Open. Korda, similarly, fell short in the Adelaide International finals before suffering a premature exit in Melbourne.
Ruud, however, remains a formidable presence on clay, having won 11 of his 12 career singles titles on the surface and reaching the French Open final in 2022 and 2023. Korda, with his aggressive baseline game and solid serve, is adaptable across all surfaces and will look to test Ruud’s baseline consistency.
