Sean Brady Takes Aim At ‘Entitled’ Welterweights, Confident He Will Earn His Way To The Belt

The welterweight division has recently become one of the most stacked in UFC. Elite fighters constantly emerge from every corner of the globe. Competition for the title shot becomes cutthroat when everyone believes they deserve it. Contenders spend years grinding through opponents waiting for their moment. But some fighters get frustrated watching others skip the line ahead.

Title shot politics can drive fighters absolutely crazy sometimes. Name value often trumps actual rankings in the matchmaking process. Former champions get immediate rematches or fast-tracked back to contention. Fighters with massive social media followings receive opportunities over more deserving contenders. This creates resentment among those putting in the work quietly. Sean Brady is one of them. He is of the belief that hard work triumphs everything else, and he is taking aim at ‘entitled’ welterweights after watching this pattern repeat itself over and over.

Sean Brady Calls Out The Division

Brady faces Michael Morales at UFC 322 this weekend in a crucial matchup. The American currently sits at #2 in the welterweight rankings. He’s worked his way up through consistent victories and dominant performances. His only loss came against former champion Belal Muhammad. That defeat prevented him from getting a title shot earlier. Now Brady finds himself in position to earn that opportunity again. At the UFC 322 media day, this is what he said:

“Everyone always says they deserve sh*t. If I don’t get a title shot after beating Morales, guess what. I will fight again. I will actually earn it.”

Brady has also noticed something frustrating about his division lately. Several fighters keep demanding title shots without earning them. He specifically mentioned names like Kamaru Usman and Shavkat Rakhmonov. Usman held the belt for years during his dominant championship reign. But he’s been inactive and lost the title already. Rakhmonov suffered an injury and hasn’t fought recently either. Still, his name gets thrown around for title shot discussions constantly.

Brady acknowledged he might need another fight even with a win. Islam Makhachev challenges Jack Della Maddalena for the welterweight title at UFC 322. The winner faces several potential challengers already lined up. Brady accepts this reality without complaining too much about it. If he beats Morales impressively this weekend and if that’s not enough for an immediate shot, he will fight again. The American contender seems willing to earn his way there properly. This attitude contrasts sharply with most of the fighters, not only in the welterweight division, but the entire UFC.
