Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is once again under the spotlight. Saudi Pro League clubs have reignited their pursuit of the Egyptian forward despite his recent dip in form. Mohamed Salah rejected a staggering £500 million package from Saudi Arabia last summer to sign a new two-year deal with Liverpool.
However, the current campaign has been far from smooth for both the player and Arne Slot’s side. Liverpool have endured a disastrous run of nine defeats in 12 games across all competitions. Mohamed Salah was benched for Sunday’s 2-0 victory over West Ham. Notably, it was the first time Salah had been dropped from a league starting lineup since April 2024.
On the previous occasions Mo Salah was dropped for Liverpool, he still came off the bench.

Salah claimed last season’s Premier League Golden Boot with 29 goals. However, the 33-year-old has found the net just four times so far in this campaign. That downturn has fuelled speculation over his future. According to talkSPORT, Saudi Pro League clubs remain determined to bring the Liverpool icon to the Gulf. Al Hilal are understood to be leading the chase, although Al-Qadsiah have also made their interest known.

Salah’s situation is complicated further by his upcoming international duty for Egypt. Liverpool manager Arne Slot has already confirmed the forward will depart on 15 December for the Africa Cup of Nations. Salah’s absence arrives at a difficult moment for Liverpool, who sit eighth in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

The Reds must now regroup quickly as they prepare to host Sunderland on Wednesday. Regis Le Bris’ side sit above Liverpool in the standings, and Slot acknowledged that the Black Cats will provide a serious challenge. With a major decision on Salah’s long-term future looming, all eyes will be on Arne Slot to see if the Dutch manager includes the Egyptian in Liverpool’s starting eleven on Wednesday evening.
