Spann seeks redemption at heavyweight as Brzeski aims to avoid another early finish.
The UFC 318 early prelims feature a critical heavyweight showdown between Ryan Spann and Lukasz Brzeski, two fighters in desperate need of a turnaround. Spann, a former light heavyweight contender, is still adjusting to the heavyweight division. Brzeski, meanwhile, is fighting to keep his UFC hopes alive after a rough stretch. With both men riding losing skids, expect fireworks from the opening bell.

Spann (22-11) made a name for himself as a dangerous finisher at light heavyweight, racking up 17 first-round wins over the course of his career. But since 2022, he’s hit a rough patch, losing four of his last five. After a second-round TKO loss in his heavyweight debut against Waldo Cortes-Acosta, Spann is searching for his win in his new weight class. At 6’5″ with a 79″ reach, he’s still an imposing figure, and his athleticism gives him a clear edge over Brzeski.

Brzeski (9-6-1), meanwhile, has just one win in six UFC appearances. The Polish brawler is coming off back-to-back losses and hasn’t looked particularly durable, with three of his recent defeats coming inside the first round. While Brzeski can keep up a decent pace in longer fights, he struggles against explosive opponents and has yet to prove he can handle pressure from elite-level athletes.

Ryan Spann vs. Lukasz Brzeski has been added to the July 19 event in New Orleans, multiple sources say. Story to come to @MMAJunkie. pic.twitter.com/qDm8tDhbKO
This one likely won’t go the distance. Spann has the tools to overwhelm Brzeski quickly, especially if he pushes the pace early and takes the fight to the ground. Expect a fast start with most likely Spann winning.
