Dominic Mysterio has developed a pattern of winning matches that seemed impossible to win. Whether it’s going against Rusev or defeating AJ Styles, he always has a trick up his sleeve. This has helped him sustain his WWE Intercontinental Championship reign for 175 days now. He was nowhere near winning against Penta tonight, but somehow managed to keep his title reign intact.
While a majority of Dominic Mysterio’s wins are achieved through dishonest tactics or assistance from others, he has been able to beat opponents like AJ Styles, Rusev, and Penta. He also defeated El Hijo Del Vikingo to become the AAA Mega Champion. He got a little help from Rusev tonight, which was all he needed to beat Penta to retain his title.

Penta was all over Dominic Mysterio since the beginning of the match. Dominic Mysterio tried everything, but Penta was still able to counter it. Penta was so close to victory many times during the match that this defeat would hurt him for the coming weeks. It was his opportunity to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship had he not gone after Rusev.

Penta was dominating the match when Rusev entered the arena. Penta straightaway went after him with a suicide dive. This gave Dominic Mysterio a much-needed strategic break, and he utilized it perfectly. He took a hammer and hit Penta with it while the referee was distracted. He then stuck the hammer in his boot and delivered a 619 to Penta, followed by a Frog Splash to secure the pin and win the match.
That was dirty… 😮💨

Dominic Mysterio will now defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship against Rusev next week. He has already defeated Rusev once. Rusev might be stronger on the card, but he will have to keep his eyes open against Dominic Mysterio and his unfair tactics.
