This comes after weeks of uncertainty. Especially after the fact that the winger had started only two games in the pre-season and season openers under Xabi Alonso since the coach’s arrival in June. This included a tense moment when Rodrygo reacted angrily after being substituted against Real Oviedo.
According to Defensa Central, Rodrygo had been a priority for Pep Guardiola. However, a possible move never materialized. City reportedly needed to resolve Savinho’s departure before making an offer. Then salary and financial fair play concerns further complicated the deal. Guardiola has long admired the Brazilian.

But reportedly, Xabi Alonso played a key role in convincing Rodrygo to stay. The Spanish coach assured him of opportunities in attack despite stiff competition from Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe. The forward renewed his contract in late 2023 until 2028, and is determined to prove himself under Alonso’s system.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s Champions League journey will see them face several heavyweights in the newly introduced 36-team league phase. Along with matches against Liverpool and Man City, they will also be faced with Juventus at home, Benfica on the road.

With his future now seemingly settled, Rodrygo remains focused on helping Real Madrid secure a record-extending 16th League title alongside their push for domestic success in La Liga.
