Quillan Salkilld Gets A 19-Second Knockout Over Anshul Jubli At UFC 312 – Was It An Early Stoppage?

Eric Divakaran

UFC 312 is done and dusted. We saw some epic fights between Du Plessis vs Strickland, Weili vs Suarez, Colby vs Topuria, and many more. It was all a thriller as the intensity of the fights kept rising. We also saw Quillan Salkilld take on Anshul Jubli in the Early prelims. The fight ended in 19 seconds and Salkilld has now improved his record to 8-1-0. Whereas for Jubli, it was heartbreaking to watch the fighter lose.

Salkilld vs. Jubli – A Brief Preview

Quillan Salkilld is an Australian fighter who just made his UFC debut. He recently started training in 2018 and is in the lightweight division of the UFC. At first he started training for MMA as a challenge for himself but it quickly became an obsession for him. Salkilld has a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu and was the Eternal MMA Lightweight champion. When asked about what it would mean to fight in the UFC, Quillan said that it means everything to him. He also said “This is my whole life. I don’t think or care about anything else.”

Anshul Jubli hails from India and is an up and coming fighter in the UFC. He previously defeated Jeka Saraghi which earned him the UFC contract. Jubli just made his debut in the octagon and lost the fight against Salkilld. The contest was stopped in 19 seconds of the first round and while some agreed with the decision to stop the fight, others did not. This begs the question, was it an early stoppage or was it a fair decision? Let’s find out.

Should the fight have continued?

Salkilld threw a hard fist to Jubli’s face which threw Anshul off and the fight was stopped in 19-seconds. This has generated some controversy amongst fans and UFC fighters. When Salkilld was asked about if the stoppage was fair, he said “Always going to be a fair stoppage.” He continued “That was fair, more than fair.” Salkilld also told the reporters that he thought it was going to be a dogfight and never thought about an early KO.

Anshul Jubli on the other hand, feels that the fight was stopped early. He said “Yes I got hit with a good shot and I was dropped but as soon as I hit the floor, I started defending myself intelligently. If you check the highlights, before the referee stopped the fight, I had already grabbed on his (Salkilld) leg. I was going for my takedown and was defending myself.” He continued “Fighters do get dropped and lose the round but the same fighter can also make a comeback in the other rounds.”

Jubli also talked about his conditioning and explained “I was so well conditioned that I could have fought for 5 rounds instead of 3. I was really calm and composed before the fight and it was something I never felt before.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
