Premier League Payout As Prize Money, TV Revenues, and Facility Fees Drive Record Earnings.

As the Premier League season 2024-25 is set to conclude, the financial rewards for clubs have been unveiled. Liverpool have emerged as both champions and they may become the highest earners. Last year, a total of £2.84 billion was distributed among the 20 clubs through the division’s central revenue system. Thus, ensuring equitable fund distribution unmatched by other major European leagues.

Each club secured a guaranteed £95.1 million, which comprised of £31.2 million from domestic broadcasting, £55.7 million from international broadcasting, and £8.2 million from central commercial revenue streams. Beyond this, earnings varied based on final league positions and television appearances.

Merit Payments: Position Matters

Merit payments, which are distributed on a sliding scale, significantly impacts club revenues. The earning gap between each league position was approximately £2.8 million last season. Champion Man City received £56.4 million last season and Liverpool this year should get the same amount.

Whereas, bottom-placed Sheffield United earned £2.8 million in merit payments last season. It should be the same this year for Southampton or any other team between Leicester City or Ipswich Town that end up at the bottom of the table. Arsenal narrowly missed out on the title last season and have missed it again this season.

Last season, they collected £53.5 million for finishing second. Following the payout from last season, they should get the same along with other teams, like, Newcastle (£50.7m), Manchester City (£47.9m), and Chelsea (£45.1m). At the lower end, Sheffield United, despite finishing bottom, still walked away with £109.7 million in total.

Facility Fees and TV Revenue Impact

Facility fees, determined by the number of live UK broadcasts, further bolster every team’s earnings. Arsenal and Liverpool led the way last season with 31 and 29 televised matches each respectively. They earned around £26.9 and £25.2 million respectively as facility fees. Man United, Man City, and Spurs followed closely with £24.4 million each.

Television exposure made a notable difference. Everton, for instance, earned more than Wolves, Fulham, and Bournemouth last season. They earned that amount even though they finished lower, because of their higher TV selections. As per the Premier League’s payout structure, one televised game translates roughly to £0.8 million.

Overall Club Earnings

Combining fixed shares, merit payments, and facility fees, Liverpool are set to lead the earnings chart this season. They may earn an estimated £176.6 million. Arsenal should follow them in second place with an estimated £173.7 million. Whereas, Respectively, Newcastle and Manchester City may earn £167.6 million and £164.8 million approximately.

Even lower-ranked teams like Southampton should secure over £100 million. This highlights the league’s extraordinary financial depth. The Premier League’s prize money pool has grown exponentially since its inception. With broadcasting deals and commercial revenues continuing to rise, the future promises even greater rewards even.
