Khabib Nurmagomedov crosses paths with an MMA legend, honoring the pioneers who shaped the sport.

This past weekend at Road to Dubai, two of the sport’s most legendary figures crossed paths in a moment that had fight fans buzzing. Fedor Emelianenko, the man who dominated Pride FC during its golden era, and Khabib Nurmagomedov, the undefeated eagle who soared through the UFC’s lightweight division, met backstage at the Coca-Cola Arena.

These two weren’t just any fighters. They were the ones who put Russia and Dagestan on the global MMA map long before anyone knew how to pronounce “Nurmagomedov !” Back in the early 2000s, when MMA was still finding its footing, Fedor was the name that struck fear into heavyweights worldwide. Fast forward to 2024, and he as well as ‘The Eagle’ has transitioned into a mentor role. He was cornering Vadim Nemkov ( he won via submission) at the PFL Champions Series Dubai: Nurmagomedov vs. Hughes, while Khabib Nurmagomedov has become quite the coach himself. One Russian legend corners a fighter while another corners his own cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov (won via majority decision). Both men have come full circle, from being the scariest guys in their respective weight classes to becoming the wise masters passing on their knowledge.

Dominance And Retirement From The Sport

The meeting between these two icons represents more than just a photo opportunity. Fedor’s era of dominance in Pride FC laid the groundwork for fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov to emerge.
