PFA Awards 2025: What Does the Liverpool and Arsenal-heavy Team of the Year Look Like?

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has unveiled their Premier League Team of the Year for the 2024/25 season. Liverpool and Arsenal are dominating the starting XI following their impressive campaigns. The squad is usually chosen through votes from fellow professionals.

Three Arsenal stars feature in the line-up after guiding the Gunners to a second-place Premier League finish and a Champions League semi-final berth. Declan Rice earned his second successive inclusion. Thus, capping a season in which he produced four goals and seven assists.

He was also named in the Arsenal’s Player of the Season. The midfielder additionally secured a place in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season. William Saliba extended his streak by being named in the XI for a third consecutive year. It became a feat no one at Arsenal had achieved since Thierry Henry’s six successive inclusions between 2000 and 2006.

Saliba’s consistency in defence helped the team register 18 league clean sheets. This was the most in the division. Gabriel Magalhaes, despite seeing his season curtailed by a hamstring injury in April, joined Rice and Saliba in the team after another commanding campaign in Arsenal’s back line.

Liverpool Title-Winning Core and Other Teams Represented

After reclaiming the Premier League crown, Liverpool were rewarded with four players in the PFA XI. Club captain Virgil van Dijk was a defensive pillar, while midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister played pivotal roles in the Reds’ dominance across competitions.

Mohamed Salah, grabbed his record third PFA Player of the Year award. He led the attack with 29 league goals and 18 assists. Milos Kerkez, who impressed at Bournemouth before sealing a transfer to Liverpool, was also named in the team at left-back.

Nottingham Forest qualified for the European competition for the first time since the 1995-96 season and they earned two spots. Goalkeeper Matz Sels was rewarded for his crucial saves throughout the season. Meanwhile striker Chris Wood made the cut after scoring 20 Premier League goals. Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak completed the XI with 23 goals last season.
