Alejandro Garnacho Rejects Bayern Munich as Chelsea Talks Advance

Moumita Dutta

Alejandro Garnacho’s Manchester United career is drawing to a close. The 21-year-old winger looks to be bound for only a move to Chelsea. The Argentine recently even rejected Bayern Munich’s approach. He has been at the centre of transfer headlines following his fallout with United manager Ruben Amorim.

A deal with the Blues now seems the most likely outcome. Garnacho was informed by Amorim earlier this summer that he was surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Since then, he has been excluded from United’s pre-season squad. He also missed their Premier League opener against Arsenal.

The winger’s situation worsened after a heated row with the manager when he was introduced as a late substitute in the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last season. Since then, there has only been one way forward for the Argentine. That is, a future away from the Manchester club.

Chelsea Leading the Race for Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea have emerged as front-runners for Garnacho’s signature. Renowned journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently reported that personal terms with Chelsea have already been agreed. Club-to-club talks with the Red Devils are ongoing.

The relations between United CEO Omar Berrada and Chelsea officials are believed to be strong. This could potentially smoothen the negotiations. The London side remain around £10 million short of United’s £40m asking price. However, optimism is growing that an agreement can be reached.

Manager Enzo Maresca is keen on strengthening his squad further. The Blues have signed Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Jarrel Hato, and Liam Delap, but remain in search of another attacking option. Garnacho is seen as a player capable of adding pace and directness. Though he will face competition from the likes of Gittens and Pedro Neto for a starting role.

Bayern Munich Failed Pursuit to Hijack Transfer

Bayern Munich briefly considered Garnacho as a replacement for injured and departed stars. However, the winger has made it clear that he only wants Chelsea. As per report from The Times, Garnacho said in May, “Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know.”

His stance has since solidified. There’s no chance now of him heading to the Allianz Arena. For Garnacho, a move to Stamford Bridge could be a fresh start after months of turmoil. Regular minutes at Chelsea will also be crucial to reigniting his international career with Argentina. Especially with the next World Cup approaching.
