After reaching the pinnacle of the middleweight division and challenging for the UFC belt, the Brazilian powerhouse has watched his ranking slip while younger fighters climb past him. His loss to Israel Adesanya in their title fight back in 2020 started a downward spiral that included losses to Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker and Sean Strickland. These setbacks pushed him further from championship contention and closer to the dangerous territory where former contenders become stepping stones for rising stars.

He even posted breakdown videos explaining how he would handle ‘Borz’ in a potential title fight. This Magomedov bout appears to be Costa’s way of staying busy while hoping for bigger opportunities to materialize. Both these fighters are strikers. Magomedov comes in with a 16-1 record and some flashy KO’s under his belt.
