Dallas rookie guard closes debut season with historic numbers

Paige Bueckers entered the WNBA with immense expectations, following Caitlin Clark into the league just one year later. As the No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 draft, she carried the tag of the league’s next superstar.

Bueckers closed her debut campaign on Thursday against the Phoenix Mercury, helping the Dallas Wings finish on a positive note. In a 97-76 win, she delivered 24 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, one steal, and two three-pointers in 30 minutes of action.

Historic rookie company for Paige Bueckers

Her final performance added to an already remarkable rookie season. Bueckers joined Caitlin Clark as the only two players in league history to rank top-three all-time in both total points and total assists as rookies.

When Clark completed her, 2024 rookie year, she set the all-time marks with 769 points and 337 assists. Paige Bueckers finished at No. 3 in both categories, recording 692 points and 194 assists in her first season.

While Clark’s numbers remain unmatched in league history, Bueckers’ rookie achievements reinforce her place among the best first-year players ever.

Despite Dallas finishing tied for the worst record in the league at 10-34, Bueckers’ statistical output exceeded expectations and established her as the presumed frontrunner for WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Additional Milestones for the Rookie

Beyond scoring and assists, Bueckers’ defensive numbers also stood out. She closed the season tied for No. 17 all-time in rookie steals with 57. Her overall impact on the floor made her one of the most complete first-year performers the league has seen.

Paige Bueckers arrived with hype, and by the end of her debut year, she had not only matched but surpassed those expectations. With historic numbers in points, assists, and steals, her rookie campaign has placed her in rare company alongside Caitlin Clark, cementing her place as one of the league’s rising stars.
