‘It’s Inevitable’ – Paddy Pimblett Names The Fight That He Sees Happening Sooner Or Later!

Zaid Quraishi

Paddy Pimblett takes aim at rival Ilia Topuria for abandoning his weight class to move to lightweight, hopes to fight him soon!

Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett, the scouser with the bowl cut and charisma for days has been on the rise since joining the UFC in 2021. He has become one of the promotion’s biggest stars despite recently cracking the top 15. His following grew from his Cage Warriors days in the UK. Fans love his walkouts, his post-fight interviews, and his unapologetic personality.

The Liverpool native has built a perfect 6-0 UFC record. Critics point to his level of competition. They say he hasn’t faced ranked opponents yet. But Paddy doesn’t care what people think. He keeps winning fights and building his brand. And he keeps calling his shots, understanding that personality sells tickets in this sport just as much as performances do.

Paddy Pimblett’s Response On The Featherweight Champ Moving Up

Ilia Topuria’s recent decision to vacate his featherweight title has shaken up two divisions. The undefeated Georgian-Spanish fighter couldn’t make 145 pounds anymore. His body simply outgrew the division that made him champion. After dethroning Alexander Volkanovski with a stunning knockout earlier this year and defending his belt against Max Holloway, Topuria now sets his sights on lightweight gold. This move puts every 155-pounder on notice, including Paddy Pimblett.

“It’s just inevitable that we end up fighting! He’s another midget, he’s tiny…He’s a fat little b*d if he can’t make featherweight!”

Their backstory adds spice to a potential matchup. Remember their hotel altercation in London? Topuria threw a water bottle at Paddy after some controversial comments about Georgia and he reciprocated. The bad blood is real between these two. While Topuria will likely get fast-tracked toward a title shot against Islam Makhachev, Pimblett believes their paths will cross eventually.

Paddy Pimblett needs a few more wins against ranked opponents before such a fight makes sense. Meanwhile, Topuria needs at least one opponent to showcase his readiness for the lightweight division. The UFC loves nothing more than genuine rivalries with authentic heat. This potential matchup has all the ingredients for a blockbuster – contrasting styles, pre-existing tension, and two of the biggest personalities in the sport.

Pimblett is currently set to face Michael Chandler at the co-main event of UFC 314. A win over Chandler, who is ranked #7 in the division may be his ticket to be close to top 5. And who knows, a fight or two later, the UFC may pit these two rivals against each other?
