Oscar Piastri is the newest star-driver of the Formula 1 paddock. A debutant of the 2023 F1 season, Oscar Piastri has been rising in the ranks exponentially. He became an important member for the McLaren team claiming points and podiums in the 2023 season. In 2024, he won his first races in F1.

Fast forward to 2025, Oscar Piastri is already a championship leader in the Formula 1 drivers championship. He is a dominant force of the 2025 season. Piastri goes toe to toe with Max Verstappen and wins duels against him.

It is safe to say that Piastri is setting the bar for the other drivers in the 2025 championship. It was only matter of time before Piastri’s achievements and progress were recognised by the motorsports experts and promoting organisations.

A New Accolade for Oscar Piastri

The 2025 season gave Piastri a major lead in the world championship. But, his best achievement was yet to come. He was awarded the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy in 2025 in recognition of his achievements.

As a matter of fact, he is now an honorary citizen of Licciana Nardi. Piastri, the newest “Iceman”, was subtly happy with his new achievement. He also remarked about how his great great grandfather was born in the same province, so its technically a home for him.

Piastri also left a comment about his performance during the media session yesterday-

“To be winning because we have an incredibly quick car and I feel like I’m driving well that’s very satisfying”

What is the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy?

The award is named after Lorenzo Bandini. He was a former F1 driver from Italy. Bandini suffered severe burns in a crash at the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix. He died three days later due to his injuries.

The Lorenzo Bandini trophy is awarded to a Formula 1 team/ driver for their achievements in the previous year. Lorenzo Bandini Trophy is an award that is given on basis of their results, character and how they achieved the results.
