Barcelona looked into signing Williams in 2024 but held back due to his price tag. With the La Liga 2024/25 won under Hansi Flick, the Blaugrana’s are reportedly willing to pay the €60 million clause for Williams this time around.

“Nico, same as other players, is showing a strong desire to come… and if the right conditions are met in his case, we’ll definitely try to complete the deal”

Williams’ current salary at Athletic Bilbao is reportedly €10-11 million net per season (£170k-£216k per week), which could pose a challenge to Barca’s wage structure, especially considering their reluctance to alter their financial model for high-earning players.

How Nico Williams’ Signing Could Impact Barcelona

Signing a versatile player like Williams who could play both wings could help the squad strengthen. Flick’s dynamic, high-pressing style that suits Williams’ pace, dribbling, and ability to hold width on the left or cut in from the right.
