Manchester City Crush Al Ain 6-0 to Seal Club World Cup Knockout Spot

The result confirms City’s qualification from Group G as they followed up their 2-0 opening win over Wydad AC with this dominant display.

Manchester City cruised into the Round of 16 at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a commanding 6-0 victory over Al Ain in Atlanta on Sunday night. Ilkay Gündogan led the City charge with a brace. The German opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a fortunate chipped cross that looped over the goalkeeper. He later added a second with a deft finish in the 73rd minute.

Making his full debut for the club, Argentine attacker Claudio Echeverri curled in a sensational free-kick to double the lead before Erling Haaland converted from the spot following a VAR-awarded penalty. City dominated proceedings inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with Josko Gvardiol hitting the post and several chances going just narrowly wide.

City Cruise to Victory

By half-time, City were 3-0 up and cruising. In the second half, substitutes added the finishing touches. Oscar Bobb scored at the near post while summer signing Rayan Cherki capped the night with a thunderous low drive, his first goal since arriving from Lyon.

The result confirms City’s qualification from Group G as they followed up their 2-0 opening win over Wydad AC with this dominant display. Despite the humid conditions outside, City remained cool and clinical inside the stadium. Guardiola rang in multiple changes from the first match, handing full debuts to Ait-Nouri and Etcheverri, while Bernardo Silva led the team for the first time as captain.

On the other hand, the UAE side were thoroughly outclassed in the match and it was a harsh reminder for coach Vladimir Ivic of the gap between his side and Man City. This dominant display puts City firmly among the tournament favorites as they head into their final group game against Juventus.

However, with Juventus also unbeaten so far, topping the group will remain a priority for Pep Guardiola as he looks to avoid a potential early clash with Real Madrid.
