Nick Nurse held meeting with Sixers after brutal start to NBA season

Nick Nurse took an hour to speak to the media because something was cooking in the locker room.

Things are not going great for the Philadelphia 76ers on or off the ground, thanks to a woeful 106-89 defeat against the Miami Heat. It handed over the 2-11 worst record to the Sixers in the NBA season, tied with the Washington Wizards. Nick Nurse, the head coach of the 76ers is facing a huge criticism for the start.

The 76ers had a great start to the game and had a 19-point advantage during the second quarter. However, the Heat outscored the Sixers 35-16 in the third quarter to hand over Philadelphia a fourth straight defeat. Joel Embiid who made his debut three games back, looked clueless in the game who walked away without attempting a single free throw.

Jimmy Butler scored 32 points and 10 rebounds for Miami to outclass the Sixers. Tyler Herro chipped in 16 in the final stanza to finish the game. Jared McCain added 20 points for Philadelphia and Paul George hit 18 points on 5-for-13 shooting.

An hour delay from Nick Nurse for media session

Following a disaster show in Florida, Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse was on the hot seat. He took an hour to speak to the media because something was cooking in the locker room. Sixers coach started his media session by apologizing for being late and said the team had a “little meeting”. “Sorry for the delay,” Nurse started. “We just had a little meeting. Won’t get into specifics of that meeting, but happy to answer any questions about the game.”

Nick Nurse gives insight on Sixers’ awful third quarter

With a 46-27 lead in the second quarter, the 76ers allowed Miami to control the game who were sloppy in the opening half. Philadelphia’s lead was reduced to three points and later, Miami were on the driver’s seat. Momentum shifted in the third when the Heat gained a 19-point advantage and the Sixers dropped just 16 points.

The 57-year-old added on the actual debacle which started from the second half, “It was a little bit of a similar pattern we’ve been having. It started out OK other than we didn’t make shots. I mean, it was a theme of the first two and a half quarters where we were really generating possibly the best shots we’ve had all year, right? We got to the rim some. We were totally open from 3. Then had just a cold spell kind of in the second but again, wasn’t unhappy.”

“I just kept saying, we’re generating great shots. Just keep doing them. Step into them, take them. The third started the same, but didn’t have any of the driving layups, had a bunch of wide-open threes, didn’t make any of them right? Then all of a sudden, again, we’re playing defense and in transition, just possession after possession after possession. So similar. Offense lets us down and puts our defense in a bind,” Nurse added on Miami’s comeback in the game.

Miami outscored the 76ers 35-16 in the third to take an 88-72 lead heading into the final stanza. Miami Heat carried the given momentum and assured another loss to Philadelphia Sixers. The series of the regular defeats put Nick Nurse on the backseat and allow the franchise to have a team meeting before the media session.

What’s cooked in the team meeting?

Nick Nurse added more about the team meeting, “Again, it’s like, a lot of the similar, what I just said there, just, like there is, again, like the defense, there’s a lot of good things happening out there defensively. Even considering we’re playing at such a disadvantage. Like, we’re playing against transition so much yet, there’s still a lot of good communication, good schemes, etc., things happening, right?”

“And again, and just trying to reiterate those things, and just trying to reiterate some of the things we need to improve on. Just offensively, moving the ball, staying with execution, some of those kind of things, and getting these guys to believe that they’re better shooters and better scorers than they’re showing right now, and we need them to step up and do that.”

Philadelphia 76ers will now in action for regular season clash against Memphis Grizzlies. Nick Nurse have a big responsibility to start the winning run in NBA. The panic button has been pressed and if Sixers continue like this, Nick Nurse can also lose his job. This is going to be a toughest week for the Sixers.
