‘There’s No Rhythm to His Game’ – NFL Analyst and Former NFL Scout Rip Caleb Williams Following Another Poor Performance against the Ravens

The Bears drop to 4-3 and are currently in third place in the NFC North

The Chicago Bears went up against the Baltimore Ravens in their week 8 game, riding a 4-game win streak. Facing a Ravens team without Lamar Jackson, Chicago was unable to extend its win streak to 5 and fell to 4-3 after a 30-16 loss.

Quarterback Caleb Williams once again struggled to lead the offense, completing 25 of 38 passes for an interception and no touchdowns. Williams continued to falter in the red zone, while his pick deep in the Bears’ territory in the fourth quarter was a massive gift to Baltimore when the score was just 16-13 in favor of the Ravens.

Colin Cowherd and John Middlekauff Sound Off on Caleb Williams

Speaking about the game between the Bears and the Ravens afterwards, host Colin Cowherd took to his podcast ‘The Colin Cowherd Podcast’ where he discussed Caleb Williams’ performances with former NFL scout turned podcaster John Middlekauff.

Cowherd put out the question of whether he is being too harsh when he states that he doesn’t believe Caleb Williams will become a consistently accurate thrower of the ball. Middlekauff, who is now the host of the ‘3 & Out With John Middlekauff’ podcast agreed with Cowherd as he went on to describe the flaws in Williams’ game.

According to the former NFL scout, Williams has not played great this season. The current success of the Bears has come from the team as a whole, most importantly the running back and the defense which has carried the team to a 4-3 start to the season.

“The thing that hit me today, and let’s face it, the elephant in the room now for several weeks, he has not played well. Their team has, the running back has played well, and the defense has played well. The quarterback has not.”

Middlekauff then proceeded to talk about Ben Johnson and how he achieved so much success with Jared Goff under center while he was the offensive coordinator in Detroit. The main area where Williams struggles the most is to hit guys out in the flat and complete short throws, allowing his receivers to do the rest.

As per Middlekauff, Williams is still looking for the spectacular, explosive plays the majority of the time, a strategy that does not work too well in the NFL.

“That’s not the NFL. The NFL is like second and eight. Can you just complete that six yard so you’re third and two instead of third and eight? And Caleb simply cannot. Timing and touch, terrible.”

Williams Stats in 2025–26 NFL Season

Caleb Williams stats for the season are also in-line with the points that Cowherd and Middlekauff were making during their analysis. So far this season, Williams has just 4 games in which he has completed 60% or higher of his passes.

In fact, even though he completed 65.8% of his passes on Sunday, Williams had been under the 60% completion mark in the previous three games against the Raiders, Commanders, and Saints, with completion percentage of 59.5%, 58.6%, and 57.7%, respectively.

Moreover, his struggles in the endzone are also apparent. Although he has 9 passing touchdowns, 4 of them came in the same game, during the Bears’ week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys. In the last two games, Williams has 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Largely touted as a generational talent, Caleb Williams has yet to prove that the hype around him in college is true. Despite being a talented and gifted player, it is his lack of adjustment to the professional league that is keeping him from achieving greater success as he continues to struggle even in his second year.
